Do not Ignore Threats Cholesterol

NEW YORK, KOMPAS.com - Not many people understand the dangers of high cholesterol for health. In fact, one of five people has high cholesterol.

Cholesterol is the dirt that can clog blood vessels. Cholesterol is actually a vital substance in the cell wall of the body, serves to make hormones and vitamin D, and is part of bile acids that break down fat in the digestive system. Cholesterol the body needs are satisfied from the production of the liver.

When we eat foods high in saturated fat content within, the liver will produce more cholesterol so the body oversupply. Excessive cholesterol and not used will be hanging around in the blood and can settle on the walls of blood vessels to form plaque.

Sediment piled up over the years will clog the blood vessels so that gradually narrows and hardens. This ultimately can trigger heart attacks and strokes.

"Although the medical world and increasingly sophisticated medications, cardiovascular disease (blood vessels and heart) still be the number one killer in the world," says Laurence S. Sperling, MD, Director of the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases from Emory University School of Medicine, USA.

World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, 20 percent incidence of stroke and more than 50 percent of heart attacks caused by high cholesterol levels. The good news is, cholesterol is a risk factor that we can still change through changes in lifestyle.

Normal cholesterol levels in the blood is less than 200 mg / dL, cholesterol (LDL) less than 130 mg / dL, HDL cholesterol of more than 45 mg / dL, and triglycerides less than 200 mg / Dl.

Fuss, high cholesterol in the blood often do not cause symptoms. That is why it is advisable to regularly, at least once a year, so that checks could prevent a fatal disease caused.
