ASEAN countries with the European Union (EU) met to discuss cooperation and provide protection for Human Rights (HAM) in Southeast Asia.

The meeting, which is one of the important sessions pascakonferensi ASEAN ministerial level with the European Union, chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam, Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

While the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski became the representative of the European Union attended the meeting which took place in the Nusantara Room, Bali International Convention Center (BICC) Westin Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday (07/22/2011).

In a release sent by the Directorate-General of ASEAN cooperation, ASEAN National Secretariat of Indonesia Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting is expected to review the way the EU-ASEAN cooperation.

Through the meeting of ASEAN and the EU, is expected to further enhance political stability and security, economic progress, justice, democracy, human rights, good governance.

Also the meeting is expected to give positive implications for the rule of law and equality of social development, peace and equality, and sustainable peace in the ASEAN and the EU.

Which became one of the important agenda is, how human rights issues (human rights), a concern in meeting the foreign ministers of ASEAN-44 has been opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday, July 19 last.

Participants also will see to what extent the implementation of inter-governmental commission on human rights ASEAN (AICHR) in order to better promote and protect human rights in ASEAN. Human rights issues will become an important topic of discussion during the meeting that took place was closed.

Another area that is also highlighted is, the more political issues to focus on how access to the European Union treaty of friendship and cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The meeting will also discuss the various activities as reflected in the EU multi-annual Indicative Programme (MIP), in the year 2011-2013. To this end, the meeting will also discuss the EU's programs continue to support ASEAN's integration as formulated in the ASEAN-EU support for regional integration programs II (APRIS II) completed in May 2010 and multi-annual indicative program for Asia 2007-2010 and 2011-2013.

In this connection, the meeting will change the view of how to improve cooperation between the people of ASEAN-EU Summit as reflected in the ASEAN-EU business community in Jakarta on 5 May 2011.
